Logistics for June 4th meeting--a proposal from the spearo/BD side

Hi all,

To maximize visual impact, we propose to coordinate the various communities. Here is a note I put together to instruct our spearos. I want to share it with the hope that you will find it useful.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Some logistics as we coordinate the various communities for a showing on June 4th.

Please wear a black shirt.

A large fluorescent post-it or tag will be provided at the meeting site and will sport a "C" in a circle with a diagonal line across it. As in "NO C"

The C is chosen because C stands for

C: External Proposal C
C: Closure
C: Cheating

By wearing your black shirt and your large flourescent post-it on your shirt, your siding with the consumptive side and position on the voting shenanigan will be clear and your silent testimony will be evident even if you are not up there speaking yet.

So far:

Spearboard: 29
Bigwatersedge (kayakfishing): 28 (I'm still ahead of Chris Fiero in my beer bet--barely).
Bloodydecks: 49 (did anyone get the spam BD email--does it sound familiar? )

If most show, it's 100 strong--not quite May 19th showing but we still have a few days to go.

IMPORTANT NOTE #1: Keep your cool. Stay professional, matter-of-fact, no cursing, no swearing. Thank them for letting you speak--but don't be meek either. State your opposition to allowing External C map to continue and state that everyone who wears black with the fluorescent sticker have the same position. It's okay to ask rhetorical question (e.g., "how could this be considered fair and when the RSG representatives were told that the votes would matter, causing them to compromise, and at the end, the rule was changed on them to allow an extreme map that was soundly voted out to be accepted?"). Be prepared for some nice spin by the I-team to explain it away using nice politician terms and tricks but you should just tuck what they say away in a corner of your brain and keep hammering (nicely) in your point.

IMPORTANT NOTE #2: Please please please look at the maps

http://spearboard.com/showpost.php?p...0&postcount=14

and prepare a secondary message to bolster the socio-economic case for NOT closing your favorite area (e.g., too much econ impact, how fishing/spearing in that spot affect you, etc.).

IMPORTANT NOTE #3: Make sure you get a card from the table outside the meeting room and fill out and turn in as soon as possible. The topic that you intend to address should be "GENERAL" Make sure if you want to obtain more time from someone, you put their name on your card as in "obtain time from XXXX. " Ask others if you are unsure how to fill it out.

And don't combine time any more than necessary. Last time the kayakfishermen got screwed when a bunch of them combined time--and got the maximum five minutes and then cut off by Ken Wiseman. They are still sore over that.

Thanks for the links to the maps. What do the different colors mean? I am assuming that the shaded areas are proposed MPAs, and different colors mean different things (no take, seasonal take or what not) but couldn't find it.

Thanks

the dfg website has the maps with a little more detail, although I don't know if they are the most current ones. Also on the dfg website it explains the different colors and reserves for each map. Red is no fishing period. The other colors sometimes allow limited amounts or species restricted fishing and take.

MLPA, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem

Let the Fish and Game Commission know what you think about the proposed maps.

Be ready for December 9th and 10th.
