Bummer.......Most likely worse with fresh water fish in Florida.
To effectively kill parasites in fish through freezing at a temperature of -4?F (-20?C) or below for at least 7 days is necessary. The average household freezer maintains 0?F (-18?C). So at that temp, definitely want to keep the fish frozen for longer than a week to kill the parasites. If one has a freezer that can go down to -31?F (-35?C) or below, it is reported that only 15 hours is necessary to kill the parasites. Alternatively, cooking fish to an internal temperature of 140?F (60?C) for at least 15-30 minutes will also kill parasites. For me the only fish I will do raw is Tuna |
