I wonder how many kayaks are going to need rescued this weekend because they paddle/peddle out and are unprepared.

Both tuna caught were on hobies. There was almost a third but I couldn't close the deal. Cheers to the Chucks, I may have to change my name if I want to get the job done right.

LawDog is so right!!
During my news interviews I repeatedly stressed several times the importance of being safe, but they cut them all out. A trip like this should not be attempted without planning, a partner, proper gear, and safety oriented thinking! So I will stress it again here, maybe it will save someone from a bad situation. If you are new to the sport be especially careful and don't take chances, partner up with someone experienced. It is a LONG paddle out there and back, I'm not saying don't go, just saying please be safe and remember... You are not within easy reach of shore, if something goes wrong it will go quickly, keep your PDF on and fastened! Just a couple weeks ago myself and another very accomplished kayaker spent 45 minutes rescuing a self proclaimed Avid kayak fisherman right in LJ! If not for his PFD it would have ended differently I think. No fish is worth getting hurt! For those that do choose to go off shore, good luck and be safe! Did you share with the news before you did with this community?

I shared with a select few FB people, I hadn't decided if I wanted to post here at all. I think maybe it was the fish processing guys that let it slip to the news who found me and asked for an interview... how do they get your number anyways? creepy!
I thought there were gentleman's rules here about posting about other peoples catches anyway, when did that go away? Either way it's all good, and I am glad that I could help bring some visibility to the sport! |
