Ok since dolphins are so sophisticated, and such amazing creatures, with human like qualities (that you all idenfity with)
![]() why wont be give them all work Visa and or make them US citezins, have them work for the navy, pay taxes, and contribute to society? have the purpose at Seaworld beocme unionized... ![]() They eat Gorillas and monkeys in Africa... why shouldnt we be protesting that too? in fact acording to science they are genetically 99% something like us? They posess all the same qualities. Its becuase they are cute, that gets people so animated. It has nothing to do with how smart the animal is. Look im just saying food is food. People of differant cultures eat differant things. How smart an animal is has nothing to do with how it taste. we dont have a right to nanny state the world from yummy creatures that they eat. We dont allow whaling and dolphin eating here in the USA that should be good enough. |

Put down the Double Double
To any fisherman or hunter out there that is bashing someone else's choice of pray....get a hold of yourself! Every culture has its own rules, norms, let people do their thing.
As soon as YOU start picking on another person, you can't complain about the tree huggers/ PETA people who try to pick on YOU! The guy in INDIA (population 1 billion +-) does not tell us Americans not to kill cows...even though he might find it unsettling. So, I am going to stuff that Big ass steak in my face until I can catch me a nice YT, KILL IT, and grill it. I heard that YT are sooo intelligent and I find them cuter than a dolphin! ![]() |

Of course it is different to kill a dolphin than it is to kill a cow or tuna.
Anyone that has ever taken a basic science class or two should understand the significance of the sentience/sapience/social behavior seen in dolphins. Dolphins being cute is why they are kept in captivity(which usually makes them very sick/they end up needing complex medical interventions, on antidepressants etc). That is not why they are seen as having a human-like mind. YT are not intelligent. Big fish look intelligent due to their size. They do have some limited table manners, but are for the most part mindless eating machines. And in India not only do they not eat cows... They used to engage in widow burning... Still engage in some forms of wife burning rarely. Not wrong, just a different culture? Just because something happens in the context of another culture does not make it ethical. |

Wife burning?
So because a society (or a few members of it) does (or did in the past) something that you do not agree with or is not moral you discount EVERYTHING they believe or do? Lets see, we murdered Native Americans, imprisoned the Japaneese, had slavery for a couple hundred years, we are the only country to drop an atomic bomb on a civilian population..... does this make ALL of us bad? or our values less or more imortant than those of other cultures?
Bringing "burning widows" into the discussion of which species a fisherman can or can not legally kill is silly. You may or may not want to kill a calico, tshark, a WSB or dolphin, but you don't want to go and be the "God" that determines WHICH species are OK. It is simply not good for our sport of fishing for us FISHERMEN to start making a stand against a group of people who happen to legally harvest a different species then what we hunt. When fishermen can not even be united in the effort to maintain our freedom/ right to harvest animals or fish, think how easy we make it for the enviro groups to attack us. I want to fish and not have to look over my shoulder at the beach to see if a fellow fisherman is criticizing my choice of keeper (legal) fish. |

(Not that it makes it more acceptable to me personally..) "It is in these islands, halfway between Scotland and Iceland, that the slaughter of entire pods of pilot whales takes place. Not for profit, but because it is considered by the islanders to be fun to kill them. They do eat some whale meat but the flesh is so contaminated with mercury that Faeroese children have higher levels of mercury in their bodies than any other people on the planet. But the majority of the whales are killed and dumped at sea, and Sea Shepherd was able to secure evidence of this waste.." |
