La Jolla to be closed - Beginning May 1st - Kayak Fishing Adventures on Big Water’s Edge

As everyone has figured out, this post was an April Fools joke. I missed the humor (too close to the situation), but the outrage shows how much people care.

Conservatively, we have about two years to fish La Jolla before any part of it can be closed by the MLPA.

Don't get too comfortable though. We'll be scrapping to hang onto our access beginning this summer.

The reality really sunk in at Fred Hall Del Mar, where Dgax brought in a closure proposal put together by a Scripps Institute biologist. It locked up the entire southern half of the kelp. At first blush I thought this not the worst possible case (certainly it serves the majority) but in less than 40 minutes we showed it to two guys who were absolutely devastated to learn their spots are under the microscope.

It reinforced my resolve to battle for the best possible outcome. The next two years will be tough ones.

But I also hoped to get some people to take action. I also sent you that SIO paper in December, guess you were not paying attention.
