I went out this morning and did a couple casts. After the reel got a little wet it started to make a soft scraping sound like it had fine sand in the works. I immediately left, went home popped the cassette out and rinsed everything in fresh water. That fixed it but if that was the result of only a couple casts in the surf then this isn't the reel for me. I returned the reel and will be looking for a salt specific model.

If you want a reel that has tight tolerances and is saltwater worthy, check out the Tibor line of flyfishing reels. They're expensive, yes... but they are the best IMHO.

Check out Hatch fly reels. Company in Vista ca. Solid, light, and made for salt. Tip- Sometimes I'll use two flies at once. Little tricky, but can produce some stellar results.

How would you tie two flies? Both flies on line or two tippets with flies on each line?

Good advice on the Hatch reels i have the 3 plus and the 7 plus never had a problem .....

I'm in to lose $20, I have a 9wt rod that I bought to learn to flyfish from the kayak. Only used it a couple times so far and would gladly give up twenty bucks to learn how to use it
