If you are fishing braid, I would stay away from the Newell. Since you are fishing braid, I would recommend a narrow reel, it is easier to keep the line flat when winding. The BG's are awesome, as are the seagates and even sealines. The sealines will have the best free spool, but don't have a narrow option, don't have a forward gearbox and click when winding. I have heard good things about the Penn Fathoms as well. IMO, it is hard to beat the saltist for a jig stick reel on a kayak.
