Anyone that has fished out of Redondo more than a few times has run into it. There is oil seeping from the canyon there which can get pretty thick when the wind is down.

Might give Simple Green a try. I have poured it on my pants when I have gotten oil or grease on them and just threw them in the washing machine. Took it out every time.

i would test on some similar scrap plastic but oven cleaner would probably do a number on that tar, with aid of a lot of elbow grease. I don't think there is a way around giving the ol' guns a workout.

oven cleaner

should do it . we used to spray that stuff on aluminum motorcycle frame to remove clear coat . rub off with brillo pad and then bring to polish with mothers . may end up melting plastic though ? .
