My favorite fly outfits are my Abel Super 8 mounted on a Scott Heli-Ply 888/3 & Abel Super 10 mounted on a Scott Heli-Ply 8810-3 with various shooting heads for calicos in the deep kelp.
The 10 weight comes in handy if there are any :1wsb: around.
The Fly rod I use depends on the weight of the shooting head I'm throwing.

My favorite conventional set-up is my Newell 322 mounted on my Calstar 530 or Seeker SJ85 for tossing surface .

Since I've yet to get a yellow. Need to concentrate on them this year. Mine would be my Compre Walleye trolling rod paired with a Abu C3. Killer rockfish setup. Great as a Lucanus or as a deep water dropshot combo. TC4 rod, soft tip and good backbone.

Have you ever seen the price of a FIN-NOR reel? The Billy Pates' & Tibors' are more expensive!

The secret is to have been a fly fisherman for over 35 years & make some influential contacts! I own over 25 Abel's (some one of a kind collectibles). I've never paid retail, but it still hasn't been cheap!!! But I also have never had one fail on me either!!!
Also keep an occasional eye out on eBay for liquidation auctions!
