5/14 Quick Evening Launch

Wanted to make sure the Scupper Pro still caught fish. Launched in La Jolla Sunday at 5:45 pm. Paddled out a half mile off the point and the birds were working a spot. First mack on the sabiki quickly went out back for a nose-tow, then, I caught a bunch of bait.

After two good missed strikes killing my baits, I got got hit a third time, and pulled the bait out of its mouth , but I let it sit and got bit again 10 seconds later. Game on.

The Avet SX with 20 fluoro topshot, was feeling the freight train pain. Got in some kelp, then pow, the line was loose so I reeled feverishly. Took in 15 ft of slack and was  to feel the stubborn pull return then I saw the beautiful shiny white and lavender of a fatty WSB.

Got her to gaff.

34 lbs, full of roe, empty stomach.

Nice job Larry. Were your arms sore with the use of the paddle?
