What's a surface iron fish? Does it look like a yellowtail fish? I've caught plenty of fish using a surface iron while on my kayak though.

Horrible experience. Wouldn't recommend it. I burned the pics a long time ago to prevent my kids from finding out what daddy has done.

I’ve heard they will bite the surface iron...

Seriously though there are a lot of reports detailing surface iron hookups. Lots of them have pics, too. Do a search and you'll find them. Then go rope some donkeys on the iron and post about it.

Off SE Florida, we rarely throw hard irons as done on the West Coast. Our biggest surface action is on False Albacore, Mahi, and Blackfin Tuna. Usually, the acrobats are chasing micro baits that drift in on weedlines. In which case, a large iron will be ignored, but matching the hatch with a Crappie jig can be productive. A friend of mine hooked a sailfish on a Crappie jig(elephants eat peanuts). When the baitfish are bigger, poppers can be productive.

Other side of peninsula. Usually when I get back from fishing Baja it’s so good I don’t even feel like fishing here anymore. But that wears off eventually.

Haha it would be a dream to fish Baja but how
Do you keep your yak from getting swiped. Does travel insurance cover it ?

More likely to get stolen in Los Angeles than Baja.
