Killer Whales in Redondo last night ?

Was anybody out hooping last night (Friday) along the King Harbor breakwall?
My neighbor told me a story about seeing a headless sea lion as he was coming back in from hooping... then as he motored away a Killer Whale came up and finished off the sea lion.
Can anyone confirm this? Orca or Shark?

Saw a floating sea lion in Newport Harbor today, and another one up by county about a month or so ago. I don't think they were killer whale related. I'd be interested to hear if they're around.

There are a lot more baby seals/sea lions coming ashore on the mainland this year... maybe the islands are over-crowded?

The Orcas are predators, but they'll go where there is easy food... and what's easier food than a weaker-than-normal baby seal? I think they will be "around" more.

Funny you say that, was casting from the jetty yesterday and no more than 5-6ft away was this sickly looking seal. Further down the jetty, I saw another baby seal, along with a few swimming in the harbor. All of them probably about 20 lbs or so. The ones on the rocks didn't look in good shape, but hey, I wasn't going to feed them. Don't want them associating fishermen with food.

Saw lots of pups out there this weekend, even came across a dead one about a mile out. The tourists were checking out a seal on the rocks...and oohing and awwwing about it. It might have been sick...there was a "marine mammal rescue" truck at the launch.
