coronados 6/20

because someone asked for a detailed report... and these fishing spots (kelp paddies) move so fast.....

got a last minute invite to fish on a buddy's boat for his first trip of 2013.
launched boat at 3:30am. got bait (sardines) at 4:00am. past coronados at 5:50am.
first paddy (6 mile south of nados). first cast got an 8lb yt at 6am. water temp 65.3. clear blue visibility 30-50ft. unknown depth

second paddy at upper hidden bank. buddy got 10lb yt at 8am. water temp 66.2.

third paddy at upper hidden bank. temp 67.1 (sun came out). triple hookup at 9am. all 3 landed (8-12lbs)

11am. trolled for 2 hours looking for kelp. found 10+ paddies bigger than my car. all had monster sunfish. 2 had seals. most had tiny 2-3lb yellows under it.

1pm. bait tank got clogged and all of the bait died. started our way back home.

2pm. found a big paddy 4miles south of coronados. about 20x50' size. drifted past and chummed our dead bait to see whats up. 50+ yt (8-15lb range) cruised by to look at the bait but didnt touch it. tried waxwing, surface iron, yoyo, p-line lazer minnow, bighammer, chunk bait, whole dead bait, and lucanus jig. nothing worked.

3:30pm. boat back on the trailer and called it a day. total 5yt caught. not bad for a first trip of 2013 on his boat. also... we counted a total of 4 boats the whole day.

top pic is flat calm waters at 10am. you see the kelp paddy?
bottom pic is the fish coffin. there's 5yt in there somewhere lol
