? SD bays any reports??

I read that SD bay is now open for kayaks and was wondering if anyone heard or has gone out to confirm. If so has the bad red tide pushed in to the bays?

Thanks for the prompt reply Matthew! You saved me a 1.5 hour drive down, I will just wait for docks to open and take the boat out so I can get out of that yuk.

Any update this morning on how it looks? I was planning to take my wife kayaking on the bay this weekend (Saturday) but if its gross we might postpone.

Red red tide goes through my head....

I went out today on my boat and found that the Red Tide in San Diego bay extends from Harbor Island well past buoy "S D" at the entrance to SD bay. There is green water from Harbor island all the way past the bridge into Southbay. The water temps were around 65 inshore to 67 offshore. I saw at least a dozen kayak fishermen out on the bay. Hope this helps you.

PB sandy

I managed to get out on Friday in SD bay. Decided to grab some bait figuring it’d be harder to fish in the nasty red tide. But I hung this beauty and thought it was a nicer halibut until it came to the side of the yak. Measured out 24-25” making it my new PB. Can’t wait for some cleaner water and conditions for a novice like me to get back out to LJ. Stay safe everyone!

Nice turd roller. The bait barges in the big bay are always holding fish but it can be challenging to work it, especially when it’s busy. Also, sometimes the Navy security boats will hold the south end tight and will be on you if you drift too far into the secure zone. I have had days with at least 5 legal Calicos there, solid ones at that.

California state records is 13.2 #, caught off of Huntington Flats (32 years ago). When the spawn is on off IB, 6-7# fish are not uncommon.
