La Jolla to be closed - Beginning May 1st

Well it happened, our Governator signed the bill last night. La Jolla will be closed for fishing from P.B. Point to Flat Rock and 3 miles out beginning May 1st. I wish we would have had an opportunity to fight it with the great folks at KFACA and United Anglers. Maybe if more of you had gotten off your asses and signed up we would have had a chance. See you in Baja.

The link is experiencing high demand, may take a few attempts to get through.

$^$#&^#%! According to that map, more than LJ is going to be off limits. I didn't think it would happen this soon!

LJ Closure

Are the people who "didn't get off their asses" the same ones who didn't do anything about the LJ parking meters or impending DP harbor rebuild?

Good one Dave. You had me thinking about fishing every day this month. I signed up for UA at the Fred Hall show. It's still not to late to sign up.

Speaking of closing Lajolla launch ramp:

RANT ON

hooks

line

radios

lights shining into the hotel

speeding

trash - fishing related.

All we need is for some kid to catch a hook into the foot and we have problems. Turn you headlights off before you swing towards to hotel.
If you need your headlights to setup your yak, point the lights seaward.
Turn you radio off especially when loading and unloading at the street. Basic common courtesy. With that stupid wall of sand, be very careful when motoring past it not to get stuck. Run over a kid or an old lady and we are screwed.

I drive a maroon f250, if you see me breaking any common sense rules just come over and call it like you see it - no one's perfect, a friendly reminder never hurts.

RANT OFF

I thought this was a good April Fools joke...

Sadly this is the real deal- La Jolla is as good as GONE.

If you read the article we also lost 5.5 miles north AND south of Dana Point Harbor. We also lost the rocky area 4.5 miles south of Newport Harbor. Its only going to get worse.

rape

This is long overdue!!! La Jolla to PB has been raped for way too long!!! Let mother nature let herself "comeback", if it's not already too late. Are there any kayaks for sale yet? Way to go Arnold!!!!

As everyone has figured out, this post was an April Fools joke. I missed the humor (too close to the situation), but the outrage shows how much people care.

Conservatively, we have about two years to fish La Jolla before any part of it can be closed by the MLPA.

Don't get too comfortable though. We'll be scrapping to hang onto our access beginning this summer.

The reality really sunk in at Fred Hall Del Mar, where Dgax brought in a closure proposal put together by a Scripps Institute biologist. It locked up the entire southern half of the kelp. At first blush I thought this not the worst possible case (certainly it serves the majority) but in less than 40 minutes we showed it to two guys who were absolutely devastated to learn their spots are under the microscope.

It reinforced my resolve to battle for the best possible outcome. The next two years will be tough ones.

I can't help that I'm a smart ass. But I also hoped to get some people to take action. I also sent you that SIO paper in December, guess you were not paying attention.

So I've been spending a little time over the past few months trying to research (going through old posts and DFG site) and figure out what I can do to help in this process. Problem is the little information I'm finding seems to imply there is not a whole lot we can do now. Maybe I'm mis guided... Is there something I'm missing? I would really like to actively help in the process, but have no idea where to start or what to do...

If anyone has any useful insight or comments please feel free to share.
