Nice post -- Cool article. I share his passions. Our paths almost crossed as I also worked part time deck on the Grande out of 22nd st. in 1981. In 1979 - 80, I was on the Freedom which was originally out of Ports o Call, and moved to 22nd st. in 1980. Bad ass that those boats are still running strong.

He mentions fishing a maximum of 40lb test for stability reasons. I guess the kayaks have become more stable since then, as I will use up to 100lb braid and 200lb leader when targeting grouper. Working the rod strictly pointed at the bow becomes mandatory to prevent flipping, and breaking off snags is a SOB, but it is doable on a PA14.
