Small surf. Red tide. No surface action for me. Went to the "secret" ling cod spot and caught 3 in about 20 minutes. Roughly 20, 22, and 25 inches. Pretty breezy all morning.

Was that in my none-too-secret ling spot or some other secret ling spot? My spot has sucked lately so I need to find a backup . Glad to hear you got a legal.

fished the islands on the San Diego 3/4 day boat..
YT's all day long at Pukey Point.. good grade fish.. majority of them were 20#+
19 YT's for about 38 anglers.. majority of the YT's hooked on the long rod surface jig..
got 2YT's one was about 22# the other was about 18#.. one on a jig the other on a long soaked dine.. gave both fish away to the first time anglers who had no idea what was going on..
good sign of fish at the islands.. YT's blowing up in the chum all day long..
run and gun cattle boat fishing... see birds and boils, 1/2 circle chumline, cast at boils..

come on LJ!

Sorry it took so long to reply, Brad. Was working out of town the last 4 days. I usually look for lings a couple hundred yards to the west of the kelp beds that show on the surface and a couple hundred yards north of where there is a lot of bull kelp. Roughly 1.5 miles west of the hotel. There's some nice bottom structure there and an occasional kelp stringer to snag on. About 95 ft. of water. I caught those guys on live spanish macks, but it looked like they had been feasting on octupus based on what they spit up on me.
