Caught a trout at Silver Lake on my old OK frenzy. Told my fishing buddy at work that fishing from a kayak was really fun, and he sent me to this site. Had no idea there was such a big group of dedicated kayak fishermen, but I ended up finding a new hobby for life.

Googled "kayak fishing forums". Found bwe and recognized all the smelly sewer folk from YouTube on here. After that it's just been a fun learning experience always thinking of the next trip.

When I found out I was relocating to LA for work, I asked around the AZ fishing forums and this was the #1 recommended place.

You guys can be a tough crowd, but I'm really happy to be here.

You might say.....

I drifted in from the outer banks....after my second rebuild on my outboard couldn't find a woman to marry with an Evenrude...with no government funding and was peddling to get by I thought padding might be more fun....the rest is history in the makings......

I was fishing an epic LJ squid tail bite w my buddy on our 20' Mako. We ended up whacking four biggies inc a five two. A yak dude goes by towed off towards the horizon screaming to his buddies "see you guys in a bit". I'm like, I gotta get me some of that action.

Woah. I don't know if that would be the thrill of a lifetime or if it would scare me to death....

Old days...

I was active on Plastic Navy, Kayak Fishing Mafia, and Kayak4Fish sites. Those seemed to die down or disappear.

Stumbled across this site in 2006.

Always glad to see an ol' school BWE member post up every now and then.

Interesting how BWE member personalities have changed over the years. I don't recall as much drama back in the day.

It's all Mr. Patrick's fault. One day I was drift fishing out in LJ in my kayak and he came by and asked if I was signed up on BWE. I said no but that I did browse the sight and he said you should sign up. After I did and was finally able to access more pictures and it let me post, it happened to be the day after I caught a 5' Mako and got some pictures. It was my first post. It is my Avatar. Thanks for the recommendation Mr. Patrick.

The first kayak forum I found out about was Plastic Navy. I forget the guy's name that started it, fished with him in the bay a few times. Not many kayak fishermen in those days, mostly fished from longboards in North County. We did not necessarily want to put our favorite fishing or surf spots on the internet. Here's a couple videos from the pre-GoPro days.

These and kayaksportfishing.com for the Malibu-based types.

Yakfishing.com back around 2000 was the biggest SD based, but were heavy handed in censoring out the mention of any other site and Greg, Corey and Al started a simple format here just like the old archived kayaksportfishing.com and Jim's Kayak4fish.com killed that site as everyone left.

For me

It started when I fished off my boat in the mid 2000's, I would see kayakers fishing Los Alamitos bay but never once thought about fishing from a kayak. I don't recall when I bought my first kayak but it was either late 2009 or mid 2010, that's right around the time that I started the Google search for kayak fishing and came across several sights, BWE seems to caught my attention and that's been my primary site since.

When I got laid off from my job at DHL I had to take a look at what assets I had and because my boat was paid off this was one of them. Having a kid in college, another in high school, a mortgage payment and making bad decisions with credit cards I had no choice but to sell my boat.........6000+ post later I'm still here.

Blast from the past. This was my first and second YT on the trusty Scrambler XT. Note the big ol Channel Island Chovie Fish Trap on the one rod. One of the fish ate that on the sink and the other ate a blue/white Ironman #3 on the 45 degree grind. No bait and wait fishing for me or FF for quite some time. My first 2 WSB came on the same Fish Trap 7 inch Channel Island Chovie.

I joined in 2009 just to troll people.

Here's one of my first kayak fish on video... from back in the days when I fished a hobie tandem, and the dirty old scallywag wasn't yet banned from BWE hahaha
