Saturday Newport Bust

I guess the title says it all. About six miles of paddling with nothing to show for it except lizards and some small space alien thing that I have no idea what it was. I kind of looked like a small Ling Cod, but the gills had a brilliant yellow line around them and had spikes on them as well. Sound like anything you have ever seen? What the hell is it?

Sorry you didn't do so well. But, at least you were out there. BTW, sarcastic fringehead is the best fish name ever.

That's it! I refused to touch the damn thing for fear of being impregnated by alien spawn. It kinda looks "Skulpin-ish" Thanks for the education.

Sarcastic Fringehead without a doubt. I used to run into fringeheads up at Malibu while drifting for Halibut. Aggressive, stupid, territorial, flamboyant little fish, that are really pretty harmless.

Not much teeth, but they have a really big mouth!!!
