DP 1/16/11

Can't sleep.

Met up with some BWE members at DP. The last time I was at DP, which was several years back, I was taking some kayak lessons with Southwind Kayaks. It was breezy in the AM; the wind laid down and then came up a bit around noon. It was a very nice day out on the water. I wasn't sure about going since I wanted to check on some items on the yak before going out, specifically my bait tank.

Good thing - the bait tank worked (the bait receiver had 4-5 inch anchovies). Unfortunately, I only caught a calico bass. I was using swimbaits, squid on a lead head, and dragged some live bait around. Some of the fellas caught short halibuts and sand bass.

Coming back to the harbor, I have never seen so many SUP boarders. I believe they were the ones scaring off the big halibut we were after.

I caught some lunch on the way home...

Was fun out there! I ended up catching a bunch of 10" smelt a couple of mackerel, and a bunch of lizards....Too bad the fishing wasn't better, but maybe next time. Good fishing with everbody that showed!

Hey, is that a Filet-No-Fish sandwich? I was out at the Barber Poles all morning for nada but Lizzards. Although the bait out there was much better than what the barge had to offer.

Nice pictures Roby. Had a fun day with you guys out there. Always nice to make new friends and get advice. Didn't take anything home to eat, AGAIN! Got a small sandy, big ass lizard? (A yellowish cuda), 2 short butts and a leopard shark. Back to it next weekend. Matt
