how big of a loop for dropper loop

when fishing deep for yellows or wsb how big of a loop do you prefer on a dropper loop set up thanks in advance

I use a surgeons loop easiest to tie it held on a 60lb plus wsb and a black seabass this year...I put the loop about the height off my mouth standing up

I like a surgeons loop too, for easily changing or removing a torpedo weight when my pole is out of the water so it's not knocking around.

From the weight loop, I run an 8" line of something like leftover 20-25# mono tied to a 3 way swivel at the end of my 65# braid. I like lighter line on my weight so I can break it off if I get stuck on something.

From the third swivel, I run out a fluorocarbon leader about the length of my pole. Personally, I like to use 25-35# Blackwater fluorocarbon shock leader for this purpose. It's a few dollars more, but I like the way it feels and performs. It stays straight and seems to be better in the nick and abrasion department. It's not an easy line to bite through. I've never had a knot failure.

That would be my heavy rig for bottom fishing in La Jolla.

I bought a leader spool of 40# P-Line fluorocarbon at Dana Landing. Two of my knots have cracked with that leader so I think I'm going to toss it. I don't know if 40# P-Line fluoro is an inferior product or if I got a bad batch. Not sure about that. They are the same knots I always use so I don't think it's my knots.

From the torpedo weight up surgions loop so you can change out sinker 20lb.or what ever you got sliced in with uni back to back into 40lb.floro another surgions loop under 12ins or less mouth high for 7/0 off set aki twist long shank hook cause wsb have teeth then another 3 ft spliced into 65/85 lb braided line with a RP or John Collins knot same knot once again simplest to tie and strong I put a drop of zap a gap glue to protect it from pole guides I don't want to wined a swivel through my pole guides works for me ....

Under a blood moon lunar eclipse 57ins long tail 11ins wide had to cut it up to weigh it .It was over 60lbs with blood loss

If your rig is worth a shit or not when you bring a fish to gaff especially at night when you can't identity what you hooked
I lost a wsb ajusting my light you want to identify before you gaff make sure you can wined your rig up close enough for gaff

You will know what your rig is worth when you snag the rocks on 50# flouro... Big cbass don't put up much of a fight

One night a wsb pulled me in to another kayaker and he was fishing squid on iron we tangled and I kept winding my fish to gaff took my razor hook blade cut his jig off my line and handed it back to him you got to be ready at all times to cut your self out of the bite and nothing was lost

Thanks for reminding me about the bottom don't forget bull kelp too I snapped two wall banger graphite rods snagged to the bottom one I sent back the other I made a gaff out of and I no put your rod between yours legs and paddle like hell and hope it comes loose that's why your looking at my heavy artillery and I don't boat fish anymore

PS THE WSB about fought like a sob....even on a marlin pole....even though it was a short battle.
