My Sons First Fish

As a father I couldn't be more proud… my 3 year old son caught his first fish!

Our family took a small kayak outing in oceanside harbor on Halloween to enjoy the good weather and I thought I'd bring along my boys little trout pole just in case we'd get lucky. We've been practicing in the driveway winding up bottles of water and he picked it up pretty fast. We trolled out to the mouth of oceanside harbor and got lucky with a tiny trout lure that he picked out himself. Instantly he said he wants to catch a bigger fish… the "bug" has been transferred!

The PA14 is a great platform and so stable, he sat between my legs while I peddled and he even fit in the front hatch with the top up. We saw seals and boats it was just so cool to show the young family around. My wife did great with my 2 year old daughter too.

that is great, nothing like them catching the first fish. He did pretty good for awhile, especially for a three year old. He will be a fisherman for the rest of his life I think.

Awesome post.

My 8 year old sons first fish was a lizard fish.

I have been trying to put him on a legal halibut.

Hard for me to get my kid away from the video games.

His face says it all! Way to go and like others have said you will have a fishing partner for life now..

Mine has been fishing since 3 as well and still has the drive to go out whenever he can..

Kids like lots of action. May want to hook him up with a wide open mac bite on ultra lite gear.

That's awesome! I'll probably take him to the big bay next, if he's having fun with smelt he's going to love the Spotties!

I got my son on bonito yesterday and he had a ball! He's older (12), but had no real interest in fishing and I was not going to force it.

Way cool!

he did great, it's so funny how you have to keep reminding them and helping them but that is what makes it so great. I have been hooked on fishing since I was a little kid much to the dismay of many but I could think of a lot of worse things I could have been doing as a kid. You have every right to be a proud pop. He looks like a great little guy.

Thats great. My dad started me around 4-5, I would get pretty distracted but came around years later. I still fish with my Dad a few weeks a year. My son is 2 1/2 and getting closer every month to getting out with me. I never would have thought that seeing life threw my sons eyes would be so rewarding. Way to go!

That's great! Nice to have that on video. Now that he's *bit*....just keep him fishing to keep him hooked.

*Fish with your kids when they are young, so you won't be fishing FOR them later.
