Small swimming pink flecks? - Kayak Fishing Adventures on Big Water’s Edge

I was out fishing at LJ Sunday afternoon and saw a lot of pinkish flecks the size of grains of sand swimming together. There were times that the large groupings made reddish ribbons in the water. Anyone know what I was looking at? I have never seen this before.
