Favorite Fish of 2014?

I've always been a big fan of these threads.
It's the time of the year when we all look back and reflect at yet another year that we put under our belt.

I figured we could revive the tradition.
Who doesn't like to relive that moment, and use an opportunity to brag?

Bring it on!
Caught on a kayak only, please.

I'll start -
7/14, Potrero Bay, Costa Rica.
The wind was howling that day 20+, offshore
Couldn't go further out and chase roosters, which was the main game in town...
Played it safe and hugged the reef closest to the shore.
I got rewarded with my first cubera.
Not huge, but sure tasted great that evening.

My Favorite Fish of 2014

Without a doubt it has to be my first Kayak Yellow Tail caught (landed) off La Jolla 10/25/14. Also it was the best eating Yellow Tail I've ever had!

No personal bests, nor notable first of species, this year. But I had a great year for catching nice fish from some not so likely spots. I got YT from San Onofre, Torrance and Hermosa for the first time. I got WSB from San Onofre and Torrance also for the first time. But I'd have to say that my favorite catches this year have been on underwater video.

Cabrilla: Not my biggest fish, but being in Baja fishing with my dad in the tandem makes this my favorite of 2014.

29.5lb WSB had only been to LJ a handful of times. Missed the 30lb club by that much. Lol

I've got a few...

Some are actual fish, and some are passing on the love of the sport.
That whole time on the water. With my brother, with friends actually getting paid to fish scenario, and other times the eyes of a 5 year old getting her first fishing rod, totally and absolutely psyched on the whole concept.
I will try to get out one more time in 2014, but I end the year smiling.

Wow, I have had quite a few memorable catches this year. But hands down my favorite catch of the year was during my son's first fishing trip. We took the boat out to catch some macs and Stripers. Couldn't get any Stripers from our usual holes on the water, so we brought the macs back to the docks. After seeing his Daddy catch a few, Chaz was ready and when it was his turn, he cranked the handle like he meant it and in short order we CPR'd this guy!

My favorite catch of the year was not my own. It was a divers footage...

I spent about 30 days diving the same spot On the outter edge learning about the bull kelp and chasing HUGE schools of greenies. Hadn't shot a yellowtail before, seen plenty, missed many and one day this guy was dive bombing a ball of damsel fish. Kill shot. Not the biggest yellow but my favorite. Put many 5 hour dives behind me for him and now I've shot A few that get bigger each time.

My favorite fish of the year was the yellowtail I caught during the HOW Tournament. I ended up catching 6 yellowtail that weekend.
