La Jolla Solo Skiff Yellowtail 2.28.2020

Launched my Solo Skiff from La Jolla Shores around 630am last Friday February 28th 2020. Searched for bait at the pier and throughout the kelp but was unable to catch any; so I played with some dolphins and whales before throwing on the Nomad trolling lure. 10 minutes later I get slammed by a 30 pound yellowtail in front of the condo. I am so blessed. Thank you all.

Yeah Mikey! So glad to see you caught a homeguard. I was all over that area the day before trolling a nice large Rapala greenback mac deep diver and saw good marks on the FF, but never got hit. Congrats man.

Thank You.

Thank you all for the compliments. I love hearing from all the legends that helped make me the fisherman I am today.

Here are my replies to the comments:

1) The lure I was trolling was a Nomad DTX Minnow 8". I've attached a photo.

2) I have a 2.5 gallon external tank inside the Solo Skiff that is hooked to the Mercury 6hp outboard motor (i had a Mercury 5hp but burnt it out). I get about 20 miles per gallon. The max I've gone in a day is 70 miles.

3) The Penn jigmaster is an amazing reel. I got it used from SquidCo years ago and it is one of my favorite reels for the Solo Skiff.

4) The song is called Savor by Chris Berry. It came up on my Spotify release radar and I really liked it.

5) I land the Solo Skiff by motoring in all the way through the surf till I have to kill the motor and pull it up. I have a paddle in case my motor goes out but I do not use it for launching or landing

I am so blessed. Thank you all.

There's a link in the description.

The song is called Savor, and it's by Chris Berry featuring Matt Williams and Satsang. I don't know how to embed videos here, so here's the link.

I have pretty much the same set up. You can run around LJ without any extra gas tank? You only use the one that is internal in the Merc? What size merc is that? i have a 6.
