Ok.... I'm just confused.

Went Hooping two nights ago.... then.... somehow fenagled the wife to let me do it yet again....

I know, I'm shocked as well.

Anyway, the first night got me two shorts and a spider crab... THAT crab is really weird! Anyway, it wasn't my night, but at least something was in the hoop when it came up so I was doing SOMETHING right.... I guess.

Anyway... I did some half assed WSB fishing near the boiler rock the first night and was treated to a few big hit and runs.... ran out of bait.

Second night same thing. Same number of bugs and "the" crab.... this time it laughed at me.

Gave up and wanted to go to my hit and run spot with MORE bait.

Kept getting the same hit and runs. Weird. I mean, this fish would strip a good 20 ft of mono off before I could even wake up and hit the clutch.

Each time... nothing there. I even would let it sit for a few seconds after that and it would come back.... rip line off then nothing!!!!

It was driving me nuts.

Anyways... left the kelp skunked and wondering what the hell that fish was?

I guess the only thing I could "think" of would be a Halibut??? I haven't caught many in my day... but remember someone saying that you have to let them suck on it for a while??

WTF?

Sorry for the disappointing report and no pictures... but there was nothing picture worthy anyway.

If I were a betting man, I would say Sealion. Very active at night, and they seem to know where the hooks are in the bait.

My vote is for a large rock or a stringer of kelp! With the right wave action these suckers can really pull some line.
