Mission; go north and finally get that damn elusive first legal halibut from the kayak!

Lazy boy launch at ~6:30.

I picked up four greenie perfectos on my second drop just short of the pier, I probably never really stopped.

It was a perfect morning on the water. The sunshine and slight offshore wind warmed me up quickly.

The surfers at Black's seemed happy.

An on the water shot of Shangri-La,

I continued north and enjoyed the beautiful day,

As I approached Flat rock the bait was concentrated at a depth of eight feet,

Not long after I took this picture a large school of large yellowtail cut through the schools of sardines and greenies!

A few lucky fellers on this charter were rewarded with yellow trophies!

I was working the area around the sporty and caught this lil' scraping croaker......

Lazily drifted south with the mild onshore breeze.

I was zinged and picked up only to be cut off leopard style.

I rerigged and continued south.

All of the sudden, I get a slow zing, that grew into a big zing.........

An then it was on.

I backed off the drag on my Avet MXL and played the fish up and down.

I finally got to see my quarry, expecting the usual guitar or leopard, I was elated to see that glorious brown flatness of beaver!!

My heart, was a pumpin', I was thinking don’t f' up!

I finally got a shot with the gaff, a poorly placed shot which seemed to have hit a metal plate and was barely hanging on by a piece of skin.

As I was sliding the game clip through the gills the beast goes nuttso

The gaff was shaken off, the game clip was opened wider and the beaver sounded.

Luckily the hookset was solid and I clipped the beast!

OH WHAT A FEELING!!

It was big,

On the water shot, thanks Soulwinner-

On the beach shot, thanks Adi-

This thing had some big choppers-

And finally the official weight 35 1/2 pounds at OEX, sorry Corey.

Thanks Brian!

Another fun and beautiful day on the water at glorious LJ
