Dana point 12/8

Went out at about 7 am,fog was not too bad but there was still some. Fished the bay until 11 and nothing. Decided to go outside and fish the pipe. My son hooked up on about a 2lb sandy on the rubber. current was really strong so we drifted alot. He also caught another short sandy after that. Then i got about a 2.5lb calico. Btw there was bait EVERYWHERE. Dolphins jumping, birds workin you name it. Then it all died down and we decided to go back in the harbor. We scraped some muscles off a dock and fished the breakwater. Caught a smelt, sargo and garabaldi(released unharmed). Fun but slow.

Tight lines,

Nice report. Interesting that you caught a Garibaldi! Have you ever seen them in action? I used to dive when I was 14 or 15, I'd find their nests and put rocks in them just to watch the fish pick up all the debris and clean the nest area. Interesting little guys.

Sounds like a good time with your son. And, you caught some fish too.

Ive seen them in la jolla but when we were fishing the breakwater there was at lest 10 just swimming around the kelp. We would throw mussels out and we would see them trying to eat them. The water was really clear too.
