Sabiki 500...Review #2 The Skinny

Okay, because I was implored by the manufacturer...AND... after showing some promise during my first session (although very brief) using the Sabiki 500...I will overlook the premature line breakoff and re-review...The Sabiki 500

So this time...staying away from all signs of kelp (as suggested by the manufacturer)...I tied off the remaining section of my original Sabiki 500 onto a broken off section of a typical Sabiki rig...no I'm not CHEAP, lol.

LONG story short...the Sabiki 500 out-caught bait...both Greenies and Spaniards by a 3 to 1 margin.

In closing, I will highly endorse this product but only if the line is upgraded from the lower end Korean brand to either a German, Japanese or American monofilament brand.

My suggestion on the price line will be $7 for a typical 5 hook rig.

Sincerely,

Jim

out caught normal Sabiki by 3 to 1 margin? but 3.5 times the price? Still needs upgrades to be viable?

something does not add up

Did I miss any black friday sales for these. Are the hooks real gold? Or just painted? $7?

That would be a very expensive sabiki! I use Charkbait's Ahi sabiki which are very durable and only $1.50.

Don't allow all of these responding "experts" to move the rest of you off such a fine item. Where are all the guys who couldn't catch bait this year...don't make me run a BWE search on you. Okay, okay...$4.50 per pack, free shipping and a full autograph on the side of one of these shrimp by the owner...?

How are they packaged? Looks like the picture is blurred to hide the quality of the hardware.

What other colors does it come in? Is there a left-handed model available?

For each sale, five cents will be donated to HOW...? I'm good for 25 packs.

The sabiki looks like a nice product but if kayakers are the target market I would suggest to the manufacturer to make a few changes that better suit the needs of someone making bait in a seated position verses someone that is standing. One suggestion would be fewer hooks, say 3 or 4. You know what happens when you have a good drop and put a pile of 5 or 6 mackerel in your lap, no fun. Another idea would be to have a longer distance between the top swivel and the top hook, again its no fun when you snag something on your kayak with that top hook in an area you cannot reach. The last suggestion would be a main line that is at least 20 lb. test with 10-12 lb. leaders to the flies and maybe with less flies the price might come down. I truly appreciate manufactures that put out a good product and I do not mind paying for that.

hey, when you are my age getting five or six flapping mackerels in your lap is the only action you are going to get. Don't take that away from us old guys.

I cut my sabiki rigs in 2... I also add a small crappie jig underneath instead of weight....maybe I will try some pink yarn to look like a shrimp....
