So easy,even a rookie can do it...7/9/15

18-20#'s

First trip to La Jolla in a yak...2nd bait in the water. Caught it on a calcutta 400, Phenix 8'6", 50# spectra to 35# blackwater florocarbine, a 6/0 tuna hook pinned to a flylined greenback...about 8:15 in the morning.

As I was trying to put the YT under my rear cargo bungees, I got caught off guard and flipped. Was able to right my kayak, however I had troubles with a sea lion grabbing at my fish as I still had it in my hand! Makes for a hard recovery...luckily a cool cat named Daren (I believe), came over and helped out by holding the YT out of the water and stabilizing my yak for me to recover. However, I think my meter is fried (got it in some rice right now trying to dry it out) and lost 1 rod. Everything else was tethered .

Met a few of the most friendliest fisherman around. Nothing like skiff fishing...been doing that for over 25years.

Overall, the best fish I've caught in 5 years! Was on it for a good 35-40 minutes, and thought I lost it 3 times, however my kelp-cutter rig worked (just like you read about it in a book).

Anyways, the fight was well worth the lost...

Tight Lines and Good Luck

Geno

And this is whats for dinner...final product!
