Kelp Fishing Corona Del Mar South

Was nice to be back on the water after a couple months hiatus. I was eagerly anticipating a scoop of bait from the barge but was disappointed to see an empty harbor entrance. Hopefully it will be back soon.
Made the most of it by catching a few pieces of bait with the sabiki and with my 'plan B' bag of shrimp, ended up with a few Calicos a Sheephead and a smaller Slime Stick. I've never fished that stretch of the coast before. Very beautiful and rugged. Looking forward to exploring a little farther down next time. Those sandy coves look like prime Halibut territory

Good to see there is kelp somewhere--it's pretty barren around San Diego.

I could be wrong, but I thought the bait barge wasn't at the entrance anymore. At some point they move further in the harbor.

Where are you looking? Point Loma kelp is doing well and there?s a nice patch in La Jolla, it just lays down with the current. Lots of kelp up the coast from Del Mar to Carlsbad too and the Barn kelp off Pendleton is pretty thick.

All holding seabass
