5 year old dies in canoe accident at Misson Bay

http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loca...106998618.html

Just heard about this from the wife....now she is adamant about not really wanting me and daughter out on kayak even though I take extreme care when we are in the bay. From reading the story, a few things don't seem to make a lot of sense.

1. No lifejacket?
2. on water at night?
3. Canoe?

If someone knows anything about this story, please share.

When I first heard the story the other night I remember them saying both dad and son were wearing lifejackets. somehow the boy got trapped under the canoe as it sank

this is a sad, RIP. Lesson to those out on the water regardless of whether children on board..watch the conditions closely and take the necessary precautions.

Very sad no matter what happened... I don't have kids but if I did just don't think I could risk taking them out at night. RIP little fisherman and prayers to the family.......

Unhappy

Just the article I need to read as I was getting ready to take my 5 year old boy out on Friday to Diamond Valley, in a canoe! Shit, I know that it will not stop us, but I am sure gonna have this on my mind and triple check every safety thing I can.

I was not there to see what happened, but what I know about Canoes I would have never been out there as it was getting dark, and no way would I have been out there with a child. Careless is what I call it.
