D@mn Nice Yellow!

Wade,

Congrats! I got skunked the day before--same conditions--with simultaneous flyline and egg sinker lines out. I'm still not sure if that is better or worse than bringing a nice sized YT up to the surface, then slicing the leader with the gaff all the time within hailing (or should I say laughing) distance of a commercial party boat off the kelp beds.

Thanks for the insight into how it was caught.

if you don't mind educating further--why did you drop at the location you did?

Secret structure spot?

Sonar marked bottom fish?

Dropped thru a mid-depth bait ball (no surface bait)?

Dropped thru a bait ball taht was occasionally striking the surface.

Close to bull kelp?

Or just dropping and drifting to cover territory?

Thanks,

Kailolo

Thanks, sure thing Kailolo!
Nope. if u follow the contour line depth i posted, and pause on any identifiable landmarks it can be traced..

Sonar marked bottom fish?
Yes exactly, I was doing a few circles on some of my paths, and came upon some solid arches staging off this pinnacle point. dropped on instantly, and waved it in front of his face. real time strike on the hds.

Dropped thru a mid-depth bait ball (no surface bait)?
no, but i do this plenty with a 4oz+ iron/butterfly/yoyo style..

Close to bull kelp?
Always.

PS when bringing up your yt in the heat of the moment, pause/relax for just a second
(if knothead isnt around or under you,)
and circle the yt one last time, and carefully pick a prime stab..

Are you using night crawlers? Do you inflate 'em before you send 'em down?

Nice catch Wade. That rod makes it look like you had your work cut out for you.

Wade, your prowess as an angler are rivaled only by your humility and respect for this sport.thanks for the fish porn and taking the time to give some helpful insight.
