I too was going to suggest the eastern sierras. So many places to fish and camp up there. Also many other great coastal suggestions above.
I guess it really depends where you live and how far you want to drive. picacho is fun and is slated to be closed at the end of the month so may be a good time to go and enjoy the fishing and camping there. http://www.friends4picacho.org/ |

Now this is an amazing trout lake!
Fished it ever year when I was a little kid! Haven't yet brought my PA out on it but it is AMAZING!
