newport 9/1/13 rockfish

Paddled out for a quick session before work today. Hit the launch around 8am and was at the spot by 8:30. Didn't take long to start marking fish and quickly limited out on reds and coppers. Met some cool guys from the board out there on the water. Paddled in and was off the water by 10:30 then off to work. Not a bad morning

Sorry no on the water photos, forgot my phone at home. Too bad too, it was a beautiful day and conditions were great. Flat water, light current and the water definitely felt alot warmer. Fish finder read 67°

Here is a few shots of some of my haul.

You should never trust a yak that doesn't have a few scales stuck to the hull. Just making sure she preforms well for ya.

Whenever bud. I try and go a few times a week. I live right down the street from the launch so I try to hit it for a few hours in the morning

nice picks of reds. our little group caught a few each as well.

did you not see any fog? we almost didnt know where we were going at one point. just straight into the fog out the bay. paddle paddle paddle. and get on some rocks. then the hard part after picking up a few rocks..... finding our way back in... (buying a compass today, so this won't happen again)
also had a shark about 6feet swim right under the bow of my yak while I was reeling in my line. whew! wasnt ready for that.

There were many kayakers out too. Next time!

Nice work! I was out there with you that day as well. Got limits too. That was the most Yakers I've ever seen out there. For the first time in at least 10 years I was actually checked by DFG on the way back, in the harbor. They were professional and courteous. They were pretty much checking every vessel that looked like it had been fishing.

Thanks for the left over bait. It was nice talking to you out there. It got REAL rough out there after you left. We hit the kelp and then fished inside the bay. I ended up with 1 sheepshead and 1 copper. both of good size.
I'll see you next time, you should be in your new yak by then. Fish on Brother.
