Paddling

Best technique to paddle? How do i paddle against the current and swells? Any dangers?

Best to go with a partner maybe one who has peddles just in case. I've hauled a paddler through wind and swell pretty easily.

Once you've experienced different conditions you will know and start to push limits. You'll know how much wind or swell your arms and stomach can take.

Check wind forecasts. For me wind at or over 11mph is not fun. So I'm fishing around the windiest part of the day.

You will find that your paddle stroke develops over time. Talk to the guys at OEX to help get you into the right paddle for your size and kayak. At first you will be splashing a lot of water, which does not help at all. You will also start to build the muscles that you need for paddling as you learn your stroke. The more time you put into it, the better prepared you will be when and if the SHTF. I have towed completely submerged kayaks with my paddle yak.

Torso rotation! Don't paddle with just your arms. You burn out quick, and it doesn't get you as much power and ease with each stroke as compared to torso incorporation.

Beginner Paddling Out Techniques.

Hello lovely people,

Finally, I'm out of the whitewater and in the lineup zone. It is physically exhausting for me to get there, unfortunately. I would like to hear your advice about proper paddling techniques and rookie mistakes.

This is how I normally do it: I hold my board's end down and walk it through as much whitewater as possible until I reach chest height. After that, I paddle and sometimes get thrown back by really powerful waves. Most of the time, I do the cobra/push-up technique but haven't yet learned the turtle roll.

However, when I reach the wave, I feel exhausted. I'm also afraid of bigger waves or my board flying at me.

We would appreciate any tips and tricks on board control, paddling, or trajectory.
