I've installed several lengthwise, no issues. Easier to access. My buddy did one at the shop today in fact.

Gee thanks but I installed it already oh well. Much better regardless then that small round junk.

It's a great upgrade.
I don't find it difficult to access the hatch at all.

tested today while fishing and no issues with access but I regret not installing lengthwise. Oh well still a huge difference.
