Thurs Morning - Pair of jacks

I paddled out with Matt F on Thursday. Surf was small but there was a ton of wind chop. Got out and metered some bait but couldn't get anything to bite. I kept hearing whales in the dark and as soon as it got light, I could see at least 3 or 4 of them coming up. The current was pulling pretty hard from North to South, so we had to keep cruising up hill to get back on the fish. Matt hooked me up with some frozen squid and I sent it down on a dropper loop, only to get destroyed by mackerel. We moved a little deeper and sent another piece to the bottom. peck peck ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz First one had the line wrapped around his neck making for an interesting fight. Right after I landed it, I sent another piece of squid back down and got bit instantly. Second fish came up nice and easy.

Thanks for the bait Matt. Good luck this weekend! Congrats.

I'm glad to hear someone got lucky. Where you in the Yellow Hobie with the Sail? I was wondering how the sail was with fishing. Get in the way much? The only thing I could come up with was a 13" bonito. To big for bait.
I guess I need to buy some frozen squid. Ranch 99 here I come.

Just a tip for those looking to take advantage of the strange lingering bite (I can't believe it's still going). As of late, 99 Ranch has had "fresh dead squid on ice", not the older hard frozen stuff. I was impressed with the quality, beautiful light brown skin, with that shiny shimmering look. These looked like they just died in the bait tank.

Just don't try to ask an employee for help in your search. lol
