Hull scratches

Wondering if anyone ever sands or knocks down the normal scratches you get on the hull of your kayaks ?

If so, what are some of the methods ?

Does it really make a difference in how well the kayak glides ?

Thanks for any input....

I use a round 1/4 inch diameter rod about 18" long to burnish the plactic about once a yet to get any bad ones, then a coat of meguires. You will not be able to feel the difference in glide.

If the scratches are real bad or burnishing doesn't work, you could try flashing the surface with a heat gun or torch then smoothing them out. Just don't over heat the plastic all the way through or you might deform it!
