Local Largemouth Bass

Where to you like to fish locally for Largemouth? This is more than just catching fish; fees, launching condition, boat traffic, etc...

Growing up less than 1 mile from Lake Murray, I was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time there. I can remember riding my bike with my float tube and gear strapped down. I haven't fished it as much in recent years as Im mainly in the salt when I get a chance to go out, but there can be some quality fish in there.

Seems that I routinely end up fishing Murray due to my work schedule and which lake is "open". Murray is open every day, so that works best when I am down from LA late in the week. There is a launch fee at Murray...$2.00 and a $8.00 fee to fish. So for 10 bones you are on the water. Not sure what the traffic is on the lake during the weekend as I have not been on the lake during a weekend in a few years.

The lake is on and off as far as the bite goes. I have fished on a Friday and caught no fish, only to fish it the following Monday and land multiple fish to include a double digit monster (no changes in weather, no pressure drop, same time of day, same bait, same location, etc..). This has happened twice in as many years...same 4 day weekend each year as well! In my opinion, the fish are more sensitive to pressure than most San Diego lakes, which is saying something...

And yes...the picture to the left, Lake Murray!

Murray, Miramar, Hodges and El cap are all good destinations for LMB.

Bass fishing is generally a plan B for me. Some thing to do when the ocean is nasty but I still want to get a paddle it. Otay is closest to me. I can say that I do usually catch a few fish there. Pretty place to. Murray is not far either. And don't have to deal with bass boats going 60 mph. Only been there 3 times. I have seen dozens of quality fish each time but couldn't get them to bite. I made the drive to lake Vail last spring. Its private and they gouge you pretty hard. I recall it was 10 or 20 bucks just to park. Cool place out in the hills east of Temecula. I did OK but the lake is famous for putting out lots of fish.

Some rumors about October, but nothing hard core yet.

On San V............All rumors, but the projection was for this Summer, but heard it was likely delayed as late as early 2017. They received the water allocation required and the new launch will be operational., which was a key issue.
