Kayak fish of the two weeks: July 23rd-30th 2022

Last Thursday out of Boca Raton, the bait was cooperative and so were the King Mackerel in the 90-140ft zone off the third reef. Weeds were so thick that it was impossible to troll, but the drift bite was good.

King Mackerel (Scomberomorus cavalla)

wow. nice fish and even nicer weather. It seems like every day I've been out lately its gloomy and gray. I live for the sunny days out on the yak, like the one in your photo.

That is so awesome! Beautiful fish!
Is there any special way that you prepare them for eating? I watched BA Fishing make fish dip and it looks pretty good too!

Thanks Ed, IF I was in SoCal, I would appreciate the sun more than here. When it's sunny and calm, it can get intensely hot and uncomfortable. I find myself adding extra fabric around my head for insulation to keep it cooler. It has given me a better understanding of why the Middle East wears all the cloth on their heads. If I could have my choice, I would almost always choose overcast for kayak fishing in Florida.

Thanks Glen, I like them best as steaks on the Barbie. The fish dips are awesome also. Kings are noted to be high in contaminants, so I usually release the smaller ones and share most of the bigger ones.
