Corvina?

Can someone verify if this is a Corvina?

Report: Launched out of Pepper Park (National City) about 6am July 6th. I caught a few Spotted Bay Bass and this fish (Corvina?) within the first 1/2 hour on a 3" white grub. Fishing was real slow after that, so I drifted into the sand for some ghost shrimp. Carolina-rigged the shrimp for another 1.5 hours, but only produced a single Mackerel (I love how those Mackerel fight). Anyway, I had a great time, as usual. I was stoked to catch the fish in the picture, which was 18" and fought hard enough to make my kayak do a 180!

Small white seabass will have a ridge (zipper) down the belly and usually broad vertical bars, fangs as stated for the short fin corvina. Sure loos like the latter.

Corvina, fanged teeth. I've caught on of those before. Is there a legal size limit?

I went through the F&G book later that day, and didn't see any minimum on Corvina.

Thank you!

Thanks, everyone for your replies. I definitely see what you mean about the fangs and how to tell it from a WSB. I'm kicking myself for throwing it back - would have loved to have fish for dinner, but wasn't 100% sure if it was Corvina or WSB. Oh well.

Thanks!

No size limit on Corvina. They just fall under the General bag limit of 10.
