LJ AM 8/22

Launched with the rest at 5:30. Found plenty of Spanish but slim picking on the (bait sized) greenbacks. Caught two nice greenbacks and an additional 4-5 rogue 15” -16” that were just too large, so I pitched them and decided it was time to fish. Set off on my milky run from north to south in 100 FOW with 1 pacific mackerel in the bait tank and another on a 4 oz Carolina rig. Figured I could make more bait on the way, so I kept my sabiki rod in the water. Around 8:30, ”click, click, click” so I slapped my rod holder rod into free spool and reeled in my sabiki. After a 10 count, I engaged the reel and let the 5/0 circle hook do its thing. About 20 minutes later had a nice eater size YT at the gaff. All in all, great day on the water. The wind picked up around noon, and was off of the water by 1:30. Good luck and stay safe. Tight lines.

Congrats on the Yellowtail. Next time don't pitch the extra large greenbacks, put one on the line. Yellowtail love those large one. The only issue with large greenbacks, is if they are too big for your bait tank. Yellowtail like Calicos love big bait and they are just stronger swimmers. Thanks for sharing.

If they keep pulling too much drag you can clip off a bit of one side of their tail fork. Will slow em down a bit
