Otay lakes

went to Lower Otay lake today... guess i looked a little out of place sporting a 30 lb jig stick and dropping big chunks of mackerel.

only had one hit on mackerel early in the AM by the dam. he spun me around and got in or under something and i ended up having to break off.

well, after a couple hours of nothing i got bored and decided to explore. brought along a 10lb bass rod and a super secret lure. trolled the bank as i explored the lake. caught half a dozen bass on the troll and worked some weedy areas and trees and ended the day with 24 buckets.

you can see my bait around 50-52ft, i watched the fish eat it but never saw any cover it went into .

some bass

towards the end of the day i noticed some black greasy stuff on my ankle, couldn't figure it out, then when i loaded the yak i saw this...

Thanks for posting

Looks like fun, aside from the black goo in our drinking water. Might have to give it a try, since I live pretty close. Just hard to pay to fish fresh when the bay's just as close.

you should have blurred/swirled the bait in photoshop like everyone does on every part of their pictures over at scsurfishing, lol.

dude i was being sarcastic about it...

its like posting a pic saying "my secret spot" with the condos at la jolla in the back ground... obviously everyone knows but no ones going to say "ill be at la jolla, in 80ft of water over kelp off the NW corner targeting yellow tail"

i have a whitish yellow one with a little bigger lip. forgot the number. didn't try it but it dives to like 3.5ft instead of just 2 which would help in 15-20 ft of water since all the vegetation is only about 3/4 the way up the water column.

senkos were getting shwacked left and right too by another boat. seemed dark colors helped today.

Senkos are always my go to bait at my local lake... They seriously get hit no matter what, especially wacky rigged.

Is your lake water level low? It really is killing the fishing for me at mine. So much structure is exposed out of the water now all the big ones just hang out in the deep

not sure. it was my first time there. looked ok. maybe 3-4ft low by looking at the launch ramp, but the picnic areas and trails next to the water looked relevent.

Thx for posting the pictures, plenty for all...

I still shake my head when someone blurs their stuff. Many fished before and many will fish after, its just funny. As for lure choice; I'll throw anything that swims if my regulars are not doing it. Deep blue ocean lures have been hammered in the Sierras when Rapala rainbows and browns wont get bit.

THX again,

Dwayne
