Are you saying that the seagate is a higher class of reel than the saltist BG?

Owned plenty of both, would never buy a seagate over saltist again. I would just wait til I saved another 50 bucks for the well worth upgrade.

I own several daiwa saltist BG reels. I like em a lot. They are definitely better than the seagates in many ways. There is one area the Seagate beats the saltist though and that is in weight. This difference can be big if you are making a lot casts from a kayak.

Check both out and see which one feels best in your hand.

Here are the weight specs

Seagate 20H 14.3 Saltist 16.5
30H 15.0 17.2
35H 20.4 21.1
40H 21.3 22.0
50H 21.9 22.7

It seems like the 20 and 30H models have a variance of up to 2.2 ounces.
The 35H, 40 and 50 have less than an ounce difference.

It doesn't really seem that much lighter to me but maybe it will feel different?

To me it seems like paying 50 dollars more over the life of a reel is not that much especially if the quality is much better and if you own it for many years.

Shimano Tranx

In my opinion the Shimano Tranx is easily the best jig stick reel....power for days, smooth as hell and easy to cast over and over and over.....good luck

I am confused on what all the 332-5 p-332 etc. i, correct me if im wrong think 5 stands for gear ratio. I just want a reel i can cast nicely and will hold up. I know both of these reels are solid but want to know what makes one better than the other is anything. most likely 65lb braid with a 40lb mono topshot on a 9' stick
-Ben

I prefer narrow spool reels . I use a Newell 322 (Rare) or a Converted Penn 99 or 112 Tiburon for 25-30# mono and I bought a Trinidad 16N for Braid w/topshot.

yeah yesterday i got a 22lb yellows on the iron with the 50 silver. Its not mine and is in my opinion a little too wide for my liking but i love how it casted and i think i will just drop down a size or two from that and go with the 40 or 35. the guys were comparing the segates to the newells and said in his opinion he would go with the segate but the saltist is obviously a better reel.

Yeah i was fishing the yo yo most of the day like everyone else hooked up first drop and seal took him so i had to snap him off. They cam up to splash around on the surface for a minute and i swam my candy bar right through the center of a bird school and got tight. Landed him 10-15 minures later after thinking we were gonna get him at 7 min when we saw deep color then gave me a few more minutes of fight. sick Like the saltist pm me if you have one your are looking to sell. Im 15 so price is my main issue but will most likely be able to arrange something.
