Funny in a sick sort of way....

Was dragging a mack and casting iron this morning. Lots of birds around, and lots of sardines. I saw a bunch of bait come up pretty far away, but think I might be able to reach it with a huge cast. I wind up and let it fly when not 20 yards into the cast a major WTF! My 4 ounce jig squarely slams into a big seagull. Broadsides the bird. The gull just dropped like a rock, not even a flutter of the wing. The bird was followed by a rain of feathers a couple of seconds later. Never knew what hit him. A first for me. Reminded me of a couple of baseball highlights when Randy Jones and Dave Winfield knock birds out of the sky with hard throws with same result.

The birds are your friend. After all, they probably made you notice the bait boiling. It's the sealions that need to take a shot with the iron. I wonder how big of jig stick you'd need to get one fast enough to penetrate.

I've done that before, surprised it doesn't happen more often, really. I'm betting you got one hell of a bird's nest on that one.

Yep, huge backlash. It was at the part of the cast where I was using practically no thumb thinking it was gonna fly a lot farther, then BAM, WTF! Funny as hell. A little revenge from when those birds crap on my yak while searching for food when I have landed and am getting my car.

I did that from my friends boat at the Nados. It was a Commarant. I tied on a Tady C, first cast...BOOM bird dead, jig gone!

I watched a young cormorant dive down and eat my deadstick iron --I figured it wouldn't be that dumb. I unhooked him and he swam right over to CaboJohn where it ate and then was hooked twice consecutively on 'dines.

Give them a break, they aren't that smart to begin with.

Twice in a row! That really is a dumb bird!lolSo where did that seagull in Andy's Avatar get his brains? Probably one hit with an Iron and it knocked some sense into him.lol

Catching birds sucks! I got 2 pelicans in one cast from the skiff on Sat. Lassoed one with the line & hooked the other in the wing. Funny shit, unless you're a pelican. One of them bit Todd on the arm as we were unhooking him. Scared the crap out of him.

What really sucks is when pelicans fly into a line (and get tangled) when somebody is on a big YT of tuna. Most of the times ive seen this happen the bird is not very lucky but we usually get the fish
