left the yak at home

Had to take a trip down to el golfo. First grouper ever and i would say some of the best eating.

Nice Catch man. Did you pull that thing out of some rocks? I was fishing in San Felipe a few years back and hooked one that I could not get pulled out of the cave it backed into. I would pulling a little and then I could feel it just kick right back down. When the line snapped I could feel the nicks all over my line from being pulled into the cave.

I had the drag all the way tight and just started cranking and didint stop. If you give them any slack they will shot for a hole in the rocks and most of the time you wont get the fish out.

Yup, that was a bad time for me to realize the drag on my Penn Jigmaster needed to be replaced. I had the drage cranked down, and it was still pulling line out. Glad you got your fish.
