Redondo halibut

Got this last weekend. Second time out this season.

Came in at 39lbs. Injured my back a few days prior. Thought I was good to fish that morning but at after fishing, my back was killing me so I couldn't even hold it away from my body for the "cool" pic. I'm at 80% now and hopefully will be back on the water in a week or two

Got it on a sardine in 65ft of water while towing in another kayak. Different story but I call it the good luck kayak because once I tied into it I got bit on the first drop within seconds.

Calcutta 400
15lb uglystick
2/0 circle hook
30lb flouro leader
4oz torpedo weight

Nice! I saw that fish!

It’s been pretty tough out there and a fish like this right now is a real miracle! Congrats!

Thanks!

There was a bunch of guys loading up when I got out. Normally I talk to everyone but I just wanted to go home due to back pain. I even asked for a ride to the parking lot to put the fish on ice lol

I didn't even get an official weight. I could have got some free hooks and shirt for the won weekly challenge. Next time...

Nice Hali, Beto. I still haven't gotten one that nice. I guess I should target more fish on the bottom. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mark,

I've seen your updates about the conditions at LJ. Looks like you are putting in time otw.

It wouldn't hurt to drag a bait down at the bottom, you never know, the YT might be cruising low due to the high water temp.

Amazing fish.
Hope the back feels better, but a fish like that will help ease the pain!

Congrats Beto!
