San Diego Bay 6/20/15

This is my first fishing report as I had a personal best day on San Diego Bay

Launched from Shelter Island around 6:30am and made my way to the bait barge. Loaded up on a kayak scoop of medium sized anchovies. Fished a dropper loop with 1-2oz of weight as the conditions changed. Caught 3 halibut (2 legal), a shark 36" in length not sure of the species but it was silver in color, a huge lizard fish and two short spotties.

I have yet to take two legal halibut in one session and these were only my third and fourth legals ever so that's the PB day connection.

On a side note I work up this morning to the worst smell in my garage, emptied out all of my gear and cleaned it again with more soap only to finish with the kayak to realize a horrible smell coming from my Lowrance transducer port on the bottom of the kayak. Pulled off the cover and found an anchovy who made his way down the scupper hole to his final resting place. I'm going to need to add a small screen to the scupper hole under the seat.

A big thanks to Mike who I met on the water that day and was kind enough to take the OTW shot of the days catch.

Thanks to all of you who have seen me on the water or met up with me for a trip out to offer some advice and share your techniques. I have been catching many more fish lately and am really looking forward to enjoying this summer on the water.

Fish ID

The shark was most likely a smooth hound. I caught a few yesterday.

Congrats on the motherload! I was out there the same day and didn't get a bite. I had tried everything...except live bait..go figure. I went out to the kelp beds and thought that I would have luck but nothing. Now I know..lol congrats again.

Great day. I've had my share of anchovies in the lowrance ready slot. When I used to live in my apartment, I had a detached garage. Smelled the same smell for days. Finally found out what it was and while cleaning that spot on my yak outside, the manager approached me and said she was about to call the police due to the numerous complaints about smells. People thought I had a dead body in the garage. I'm like, "Come on now, everyone knows dead bodies don't go in the garage!"
