DP - 03-10

I finally was able to take the kayak out this last Sunday for a spin. Launched from Dana Point, no one home on the bait receiver so I was glad I took a pack of squid along. Weather was fairly good with a slight breeze from the SW.

I first headed for the shallows along Doheney, but the water was a very dirty brown color, and cold, 57 degrees. I decided to head out deeper in the hope the water was clearer, which it was, but not by much.

Drifted out along the pipeline, pretty slow, got a lot of nibbles on the squid in the shallower water, 30' +/-, nabbed a barely legal sculpin. In the 45' area I managed to get a decent sized Calico.

By 2 pm the wind had picked up to the point that it was hard to control the drift so I headed in.

I did get to watch a rain cell form, rain and die out on the water. It was interesting, stayed offshore so no issues with getting wet.
